9/4-5/2009: Labor Day Weekend

Saturday was a fun day - drank Starbucks and enjoyed fresh bakery fresh rye bagels with lox and cream cheese from Zabaar's in bed with the puppies. (Lox anywhere near the doggies is a bit of torture for them...so they got a little snack too)
Then time to dress up for brunch with two girls from my women's group at Calle Ocho...great sangria!

Sunday began with running out the door around 8:00am to Central Park with the dogs. Glorious 2 hours jogging and off leash. We stopped to rest along the Lake and enjoyed the music sung by a young family under a bridge. Then around 2pm met up with Steven for some free Kayaking on the Hudson river at Houston St. and then to chipotle for some dinner and margaritas (they're YUM.) and a jaunt over to Bleecker St. to search out Magnolia's bakery and that yummy chocolate icing. And yes. I bought a container of JUST icing. (and the counter lady looked at me like I was crazy too).

I'm tired tonight - wonder if I'll have enough energy for tomorrow!!

I love NYC! Good night!

WEDDING!!

Back from the wedding!
Boy did the couple look amazing and it was such an ENJOYABLE wedding.

The reception looked AMAZING and I think the food was too good :)

More to come on the wedding...once I actually have some pictures with the bride/groom!

I shared a cab back to NYC from JFK airport with a stranger...or 2. They were from England and very nice to share. I got home and fell in love with my little babies all over again. They are so sweet. Thanks to my live-in dog sitter - they had a good time while I was away!!

Another new discovery...

I just took a walk with Timmy (one on one to work on the leash aggression) and had a fantastic discovery...a new area of Riverside Park. It was a stretch of walk low down by the river lined with benches and a pier overlooking the Hudson River. The sun was setting and the trees -- the old, gorgeous, grandfather trees -- were swaying in the breezed overhead. Never would I have thought we'd spend so much time in nature when we moved to the Big City - but walking two dogs daily, it's a blessing and a new experience in and of itself. We live between two amazing parks - Central Park and Riverside Park and both are within walking distance and both are big enough to spends hours wandering in. It was amazingly green and peaceful with lots of people moving up and down the boardwalk (which was really a sidewalk). The temperature was perfectly cool and I said aloud once again, sitting side-by-side on the bench next to the water "Timmy, can you believe it? We live in New York City!" And he simply nudged my pocket hoping for another treat.

Wallstreet and Broadway

I work at the 100 Broadway office. My mom wanted to see where I work...so I thought I'd share with all of you! I'm on the 20th floor overlooking Trinity Church to the West. It's OLD. Like SUPER-dooooper old. But we'll get to that gorgeousness in a moment.

Here is a tour:

The view is kinda amazing. These windows near me face West over Broadway and Trinity Church. (did you know they own the most real estate in NYC!)

As I approach the front door to leave each evening around 5:30pm - I am greeted by the historical Trinity Church. Enchanting is my first thought that comes to mind...
A look uptown - North on Broadway

...before crossing the street and a quick look back at my building.
I found the next photo at www.panoramio.com/photo/17963312 because it shows the church amongst it's neighbors. My building is actually to the left/across the street from the church. This is looking southward on Broadway. The adjacent cemetery is lovely and filled with a feeling of deep roots.

Reading the tombstones, I envision the stories of the lives that were lived more than 100 years ago...it's truly enchanting. Some even brought tears to my eyes.
The church itself has a rich history and is a landmark.
"When the present Trinity Church was consecrated on Ascension Day May 1, 1846, its soaring Neo-Gothic spire, surmounted by a gilded cross, dominated the skyline of lower Manhattan. Trinity was a welcoming beacon for ships sailing into New York Harbor. Though skyscrapers have risen all around it, Trinity Church still stands as a significant statement of spiritual values in the heart of downtown Manhattan and serves as a center for contemplation, worship, and Christian community. " [http://www.trinitywallstreet.org/history/]

And finally a quick walk south on Broadway past the fruit carts, turn left/East on Wall street and walk down to the subway for a :25 train home :)

Happy Easter Sunday!

Love you guys! It's
spring here!

Laughing, ribs and margaritas! GOOD TIMES!

Saturday night was a blast! I met up with Steven Fairchild for a repeat RIB night! OMG. People, if only this were a SCRATCH-N-SNIFF blog.

So good.

And that huge drink? A Strawberry Margarita.

So good.

Then we headed over to see JAY MOORE at the Gothem Comedy Club. I've been a fan of Last Comic Standing and knew it'd be a fun night. We had some GREAT laughs, good drinks and PINKBERRY to top it off!

Did I mention: I LOVE NY!! Thanks to Steven for the fun!

*Beware if you're headed off to the comedy clubs - we were both a bit caught off guard with the language - - the tv routines are definitely PG compared to clubs!

Leave me a comment to let me know you were here! :)

Easter flowers, Glorious FLOWERS.

Today I ventured out to Macy's to view the Macy's Flower Show. It was lovely.

My favorite part were the delicate ladies in the windows. Gorgeous!

I was truly overwhelmed by this Macy's, all 7 (I think) over-sized floors! And for those who know me...I'm not EVER overwhelmed with shopping. I think I might have started to hyperventilate!

To all of you, a very lovely Easter. I miss being with you friends and family this weekend.

Love to every one of you.

LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT!!!

I am so excited! I just bought a charcoal gray, very chic couch and chair originally from Room and Board! It looks and feels like velvet - and is going to look great in my room!! She took great care of them and they are in new condition.

I'm tellin' ya -- what a thrill! It's a fantastic feeling when you find the diamonds amongst the rubbish on Craigslist! This is my 2nd CL purchase and get this: both within 3 blocks of my house...just by chance!

These pics I took only :45 minutes ago at the seller's home...get this! Only $200 for the PAIR. So awesome.

My vision is coming together nicely...oh how I love decorating! I can't wait to show you the before and after!

Weekend in NYC #4

What a fantastic weekend. It started off with leaving work on Friday at 12:30pm instead of the normal 9 hour workday. I'm trying out my option to work a 9/80 schedule, giving me every other Friday off! I started only half way through the cycle, thus only half the day off.

I went home and futzed around the house for a little bit - I seem to be the IT helpline for the retired couple I rent from. But finally I saddled up the horses :) and took the dogs out.

Timmy, Lacey and I walked down 79th street East 2 blocks and met the backside of the Museum of Natural History. Walking slowly around the building we fell in line with the wonderful assortments of dogs and owners meandering through the park there. We made our way to the dog run along the North side of the museum. Could it be more handy? I think not. I stayed longer than usual - enjoying the odd turn in weather. It was SPRING! And really warm! I actually sat down on a bench, unusual for me - as I like to keep the dogs moving around the area. If I sit, they cling close. I met Stephanie, an artistic new friend and we agreed to get together soon before exchanging phone numbers. We had discussed how different and friendly NY is when you have dogs and spend time in the dog parks. Obviously, I agreed :)

Friday evening I felt anxious, as if I really wanted to go "out on the town" -- but alas, I stayed home and enjoyed TV and internet from the comfort of my bed.

Saturday brought a lazy morning, finally making my way to the shower about 11am. A phone call later, I had an invitation to actually go INSIDE the Museum of Natural History with and old friend from college who was a member! I walked the dogs for an abbreviated trip to the dogpark.

After picking up 2 croissants, I hurriedly made my way around the huge museum for my 1pm rendezvous on the Western entrance steps. For nearly 3 hours Steven Fairchild and I meandered through the rooms -- me, like a little girl asking, "is that really real?" Steven saying "hello there" to his old friends...REALLY old friends. I discovered that Steven is great for sound effects and historical details.

Post-museum, we jumped on a subway train down to Chelsea to visit Home Depot. I was starving and when we popped up to street level at 23rd and 8th - a restaurant on the corner - "Dallas BBQ" literally called my name! Apparently, one of Steven's favorite places, we quickly agreed to indulge got a table for two. My mouth watered as they set down my own cow exhibit! The beef ribs were HUGE!!! And fall-off-the-bone YUMMY. A fabulous lime margarita and cole slaw and I couldn't stop Mmmmmmm-ing.

Sunday morning it looked like brunch plans had fallen through - but happily were back on! I would meet childhood buddy Rachelle Joseph in the West Village - an area I had only walked through last Fall. I exited the 1 train at 14th (and 8th street) where she led us to EXTRA VIRGIN at 259 West 4th Street. What a quaint neighborhood!

After I had lovely baked eggs on sour dough toast with tomatoes and spinach - FABULOUS - along with a Belini, we wander the streets. Rachelle introduced me to fish and cheese markets and then to her lovely home on 14th street.

Then home to my adorable puppies.

A great weekend! Here's to selling my car this week, and my appointment with Mark tomorrow. Cross your fingers :)
